Module 3: Managing Human Resources

Motivation

Motivation is a person's desire to work. Boosting employee motivation is an important part of human resource management and there are a number of ways employees can be motivated. We will look at motivation theories later in the unit.

Engaging with business culture
Businesses may suffer from a ‘culture gap' – the difference between the business culture that management think exists in the organisation compared to the actual culture of the business. Businesses try to create the culture they would like to have through employee engagement, training, opportunities to socialise, team building and so on.
Employee satisfaction
Employee satisfaction can affect their motivation, absence, as well as how long they stay with a company, so it is key for a human resources department to ensure that the satisfaction of people who work for the company is as high as possible. Satisfaction comes from the job itself but also from other benefits offered by the business.
