Products and services often need to be adapted to appeal to the differing tastes of the population. Products may also need to be modified because of the country's standards or laws or because the specific characteristic of the product needs to be changed. For example, in the United Kingdom we drive on the left-hand side of the road. However, in France they drive on the right. Cars sold in France are adapted so that the steering wheel is on the left-hand side.
