The techniques and tools of quality management

Quality control
Quality control is about testing a product to ensure it conforms to quality benchmarks. It can be an important part of a quality assurance system but a quality management system is about more than end-of-line testing. It is about quality assurance throughout the manufacturing process.
Lean manufacturing
Lean manufacturing is a method of manufacturing in the least amount of time possible, as well as reducing waste during the process. Since defects create waste, quality management is an important part of the concept. You can learn more about lean manufacturing here:

Six Sigma

Six Sigma is a quality management system that focuses on techniques and tools to improve business processes. The process starts with a team choosing a process to focus on and then defining the problem. The team creates a benchmark by measuring existing performance and finding out where there are factors that hinder performance. The team then analyses each input to see which one of them creates the problem.

Once the problem has been found, they will put processes in place to solve the problem. Then they will put rules into the process so it can't happen again.
